Commercial AC Installation in Southeast Michigan

A commercial cooling system installed without proper load calculations, equipment sizing, or controls integration will cost more to operate and fail sooner than it should. Friedman Mechanical engineers every installation correctly from the start and backs it with 35+ years of commercial HVAC experience across Southeast Michigan.

The Installation Determines Everything Down Stream

Cooling system performance over the next 15 to 20 years is largely determined on installation day. Oversized equipment short-cycles and degrades faster. Undersized equipment runs continuously and can't maintain setpoint under peak load. Improperly balanced ductwork creates hot and cold zones that generate complaints for the life of the system. Controls that aren't commissioned correctly never perform as designed.

Friedman Mechanical treats every commercial AC installation as an engineering project. We start with a rigorous load analysis, select equipment matched to your facility's actual demands, and execute the installation with the documentation and commissioning that commercial projects require. No shortcuts. No assumptions. No callbacks three months later because the system was sized by gut feel.

What we do

Commercial AC & Cooling Installation

Packaged rooftop unit installation
Rooftop systems

Packaged Rooftop Unit (RTU) Installation

Packaged rooftop units are the most common commercial cooling system in Southeast Michigan, and when they fail, the impact is immediate across the whole floor or building. We diagnose and repair RTU failures of all types — compressor issues, refrigerant leaks, failed economizers, motor and fan problems, controls faults, and heat exchanger issues — across all major manufacturers. Emergency same-day response available.

Split system installation
Installation

Split System Installation

Commercial split system installation for offices, medical suites, server rooms, retail spaces, and tenant buildouts. Properly sized for the space, cleanly installed, and integrated with zoning and controls infrastructure where required. Both ducted and ductless configurations available depending on building layout and existing infrastructure.

VRF system installation
Design & installation

VRF System Installation

Refrigerant loss is one of the most common causes of declining cooling performance in commercial systems. Our technicians perform thorough leak detection using electronic and UV detection methods, repair the leak at the source, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. We document all refrigerant handling in compliance with EPA Section 608 requirements.

VAV system installation
Design & installation

VAV System Installation

Variable Air Volume systems for larger commercial buildings requiring precise zone control and energy-efficient air distribution. We design and install VAV systems with proper static pressure balancing, terminal unit programming, and controls integration for optimal performance across all operating conditions.

Chiller and cooling tower installation
Installation

Chiller & Cooling Tower Installation

Large-scale cooling plant installation for facilities requiring chilled water distribution. Air-cooled and water-cooled chiller installation, cooling tower specification and installation, condenser water system design, chemical treatment coordination, and full plant commissioning managed as a complete project.

Ductwork design and installation
Air distribution

Ductwork Design & Installation

Cooling system performance is only as good as the distribution system behind it. Friedman Mechanical designs and installs custom sheet metal ductwork engineered for proper static pressure, airflow balance, and zone control. We don't retrofit new equipment onto undersized or poorly configured duct systems and call it done — if the distribution needs work, we address it.

Building automation and controls integration
Controls & automation

Building Automation & Controls Integration

Every cooling system Friedman Mechanical installs is fully integrated with your building automation system or controls infrastructure. Zone sensors, economizer controls, demand-controlled ventilation, scheduling, and setpoint programming are all configured and verified during commissioning.

System replacement and retrofit
Upgrades & retrofits

System Replacement & Retrofit

End-of-life system replacement planned and executed with minimal operational disruption. We assess existing infrastructure, identify what can be retained and what needs to go, and manage the full transition. Replacement projects are also an opportunity to upgrade controls, improve energy efficiency, and address ductwork deficiencies that have accumulated over the previous system's life.

  • We perform a full cooling load calculation based on building square footage, occupancy levels, internal heat loads, glazing, insulation values, local design conditions, and operational schedule. Proper sizing is non-negotiable oversized equipment short-cycles and degrades prematurely, while undersized equipment can't maintain setpoint during peak summer conditions.

  • A packaged rooftop unit serves a defined zone through ductwork and is best suited for smaller commercial spaces or buildings with straightforward floor plans. A VRF system uses a single outdoor unit connected to multiple independent indoor units across different zones, enabling simultaneous heating and cooling in different areas and significantly better part-load efficiency. VRF is typically the better choice for larger, multi-tenant, or complex buildings. We assess both options and recommend based on your building's specific profile.

  • Yes. Friedman Mechanical manages all required permits and ensures every installation meets applicable mechanical codes and manufacturer specifications. We provide complete documentation and sign-off at project completion.

  •  Yes. Our technicians are experienced with BAS integration across most major platforms. New equipment is fully commissioned and all control sequences are verified before we leave the site.

  • Timeline depends on system type, building complexity, equipment lead times, and site access. A single RTU replacement can often be completed in one day. A full VRF or chiller plant installation is a multi-week project. We provide a detailed project schedule as part of the estimate process.

  • Yes. Friedman Mechanical offers preventive maintenance agreements for all systems we install, and our 24/7 service center is always available for repair calls. We encourage clients to set up a maintenance agreement at installation so the same team that installed the system is the one servicing it going forward.
